At our last meeting of the CLP we voted unanimously in favour of this motion from Plaistow South ward.
The text of the motion is below:
The West Ham Constituency Labour Party condemns the financial constraints being imposed on the London Fire Brigade by the Mayor of London that will lead to the closure of 10 fire stations of which one of is in Newham, the loss of 14 fire engines and the removal of 552 firefighter’s posts.
The Party supports the decision by the London Fire & Emergency Planning Authority to reject the proposed cuts to the London Fire Brigade. These cuts were rejected by:
· Over 1,300 Londoners who attended 24 public meetings
· The 21,700 Londoners who signed 13 petitions opposing the plans
· 94% of those who responded to the London Fire Brigade’s online consultation
We welcome the comments made by the Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, in the most recent edition of the Newham Magazine when he condemned the cut and highlighted the impact it will have to residents in our borough.
We resolve that the Mayor of London must provide the necessary funding to enable the London Fire & Emergency Planning Authority to maintain the front line response service that the population of Newham demand.
